Parts of Toronto’s east end were shrouded in darkness on Wednesday night amid a major outage, with video showing dozens of storefronts and restaurants along Danforth Avenue in the dark.
More than 30,000 homes in downtown Toronto and the east end were in the dark for hours last night due to widespread power outages, spanning from Cabbagetown to Leslieville.
Video taken from CP24’s Phil Perkins showed near-complete darkness along Danforth Avenue during the outage.
By 10:30 p.m., Toronto Hydro confirmed power had been fully restored to the area.
On Thursday morning, the utility company said crews were working to restore a separate power outage in the Beaches after a tree fell onto powerlines.
Chopper 24 footage taken at around 9:40 a.m. on Thursday show a large downed tree with branches splintered off, covering parts of the sidewalk and the front yards of a few homes.
In its most recent update, Toronto Hydro said about 230 customers were still without power.
“We know how difficult it is to be without power, especially for an extended period, and sincerely appreciate our customers’ patience and understanding,” the post reads.
