Toronto police have identified the suspect wanted in the “unprovoked” stabbing of a TTC electrical worker downtown on Friday morning.
Police said the worker was walking alone on the sidewalk near Bloor and Yonge Streets around 8 a.m. when he was approached from behind by an unknown man.
The TTC said the worker was on break at the time.
The suspect, unprovoked, stabbed the worker, police said. He then fled the area.
Police said the TTC worker was taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.
The TTC said the worker was later released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
On Saturday, police identified the suspect as 36-year-old Anthony Christopher David McLaughlin.
He is wanted for assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
McLaughlin is described as being five-foot-eight to five-foot-10, with a medium build, numerous tattoos on his face and arms, and a full beard.
He was last seen wearing a grey t-shirt, blue vest, light grey pants with side pockets, brown leather shoes with mustard-coloured laces, and a backwards black baseball cap with “We The North” in white writing.
TTC CEO Mandeep Lali condemned the attack, saying violence against workers in the line of duty is “completely unacceptable.”
“This employee and their colleagues are receiving the full support of the organization, including access to trauma counselling services,” Lali said.
“As always, we are providing our full cooperation to the Toronto Police Service as they conduct their investigation.”
