Major delays are being reported on Highway 401 after a collision and a separate oil spill resulted in closures in both the eastbound and westbound lanes.
The first issue was reported just before 1 p.m. after a transport truck spilled oil onto the westbound collector lanes near Keele Street.
The transport truck is currently on the right shoulder of the highway and cleanup efforts are underway.
Ontario Provincial Police say that motorists should expect “major delays” as a result of the closure.
The second issue was reported just after 4 p.m. and is unrelated to the oil spill.
OPP say that the eastbound express lanes are closed at Winston Churchill Boulevard after a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.
They say that the 53-year-old motorcycle rider was seriously injured in that collision and has been taken to hospital.
There are also separate collisions that have resulted in lane closures on the eastbound Hwy. 401 at Mississauga Road and the westbound Hwy. 401 express at Bayview Avenue, CP24 Traffic Specialist Sonia Sache said.
“It is getting increasingly tangled,” Sache said. “Traffic is absolutely stacked.”
There is currently no timeline for the reopening of the highway in either direction.
