A Scarborough resident has been charged after allegedly firing a gun as multiple suspects attempted to steal a vehicle from the driveway of their home early Wednesday morning.
The incident happened in the Cliffcrest neighbourhood, near Kingston and McCowan roads.
Toronto police said they were called to the area at 2:41 a.m.
Investigators say they learned that an unknown number of suspects were attempting to steal a vehicle from the driveway of a home when a firearm was discharged by one of its residents.
A media officer later confirmed to CP24 that the vehicle that the suspects are alleged to have been trying to steal belongs to the residents of the same home.
A nearby dwelling sustained damage from the gunfire, police said.
No injuries have been reported.
The suspects, meanwhile, fled the scene prior to police arrival.
Francis Betinvieh, 37, of Toronto, has been charged with discharge firearm recklessly. He was scheduled to appear in bail court on Aug. 19.
This investigation is ongoing and anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police at 416-808-4300 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
