Dylan Cease might just be the only baseball player who is as well known for his painting as he for his pitching. Now, art lovers and baseball fans alike can soon wear the Blue Jays pitcher’s “love letter to Toronto” on a sweater.
The Art Gallery of Ontario had teased a stack of black shirts on Thursday with an “AGO x” logo peeking out from among the folds, causing fans to wonder if a potential Cease exhibit was in the works.
The gallery put a halt to the theories on Friday, by announcing the AGO x Cease limited-edition capsule collection featuring the pitcher’s painting: “Eve of Toronto (2026).”
The collection will be available for purchase starting at 10:30 a.m. Monday, and will feature an array of merchandise from tote bags, sweatshirts, T-shirts, prints and postcards.
“To celebrate the launch, we’re inviting the public to see Cease’s artwork for themselves, at a first come, first serve photo op in Walker Court,” the gallery said in a post on social media.
“Grab your camera and be among the first to see the capsule collection, take a photo with the man himself and see his painting.”
Cease is known for his artwork off the mound, having painted a piece for Blue Jays’ manager John Schneider.
Even more recently, one of Cease’s original paintings sold for $16,000 to support Jays Care, the charitable foundation associated with the franchise. Forty-five people had bid on the painting.
Outside of his artwork, Cease has been a driving force behind the Jays recent success and was also name the pitcher of the month for July with 46 strikeouts at the time.
