Toronto police say their Hate Crime Unit is investigating an incident that occurred in North York over the weekend.
It happened near Bathurst Street and Sheppard Avenue West, they said.
In a statement posted on social media, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, B’nai Brith Canada, and Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre called for justice, saying what happened is “blatant antisemitism.”
“An individual who is reportedly a university instructor stood in a Jewish neighbourhood and repeated some of the oldest and most vile lies and conspiracy theories about Jews – accusing Jews of using “black magic,” raping, murdering, and eating children,” the groups alleged.
“These are antisemitic blood libels that have been used for centuries to justify hatred and violence against Jews.”
Toronto police are asking anyone who witnessed this incident or anyone with to contact them at 416-808-3505 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
