Shots were fired at a Thorncliffe Park apartment building early Wednesday morning, and investigators now say the incident is linked to two other shootings in the area over the weekend.
Toronto police said an unknown suspect or suspects discharged a firearm at 43 Thorncliffe Park Dr. at around 2:35 a.m.
No injuries were reported, but evidence of gunfire was found by officers who responded to the scene, police said.
Hours later, police released an image of a vehicle, described as a 2016 to 2020 Honda Civic with tinted windows and no front licence plate.
It is unclear if the vehicle had a rear licence plate.
Police said the vehicle is also believed to be involved in two incidents early Sunday morning at two other apartment buildings in the area, 47 Thorncliffe Park Dr. and 49 Thorncliffe Park Dr.
Local councillor says residents are worried
Coun. Rachel Chernos Lin, who represents the area, said she is concerned about the incidents.
“This is a very dense community, very large population, and thankfully nobody was hurt. But obviously, something of major, significant concern to see something like this in Thorncliffe Park happen on multiple occasions,” Chernos Lin said, noting that over 25,000 people live in the area.
The councillor shared that members of her office have met with Toronto police and the owner of the apartment buildings to discuss the incidents and do a walkaround of the neighbourhood to talk to residents.
She also said residents have told her that they are feeling uncomfortable and worried following the shootings.
“Thankful that it was during the middle of the night when they weren’t up and about, but some of the residents were awakened by gunshots,” Chernos Lin said.
“I really understand their concerns and the fear that they’re experiencing. And we need to make sure this stops and that this is the end of it.”
The councillor noted that there will be increased police presence, both uniformed and plainclothes officers as the investigation is ongoing.
