Like the born-and-bred Torontonian that Mike Myers is, the comedian is showing how “kinda chic” it is to have an impromptu, solo dance party at a TTC subway station.
In a video shared to his Instagram on Thursday, Myers is seen leaping, bounding and nearly pirouetting like a ballerina to the pianist playing a keyboard at Bloor-Yonge Station.
The few people seen at the station don’t appear to recognize the “Austin Powers” actor, who was sporting a George Harrison T-shirt, cargo pants and black New Balance sneakers at the time.
“Kinda chic to dance in the subway,” the video reads, with Toronto and “be silly” included as hashtags.
Hundreds of people commented on the actor’s video, including the Toronto Transit Commission: “Whatever this is, we approve.”
In a statement laden with iconic Myers references, TTC spokesperson Stuart Green said they are a “little verklempt” by the performance.
“Yeah, Baby! This is excellent!” Green wrote in an email to CTV News. “Not to mention that buying this kind of publicity would set us back at least ..... one BILLION dollars.”
Ultimately, Green said they are thrilled to see Myers enjoy the subway buskers as much as the TTC does.
“Being a Scarborough kid, the only thing that could have possibly made this truer to form is if he was doing it at Kennedy Station,” Green said.
It is not clear when the video posted by Myers was captured.
