Toronto Blue Jays’ Ernie Clement is making news for a diamond that has nothing to do with baseball.

The utility player’s now-fiancée, Stefanie Brejcha, announced their engagement in a social media post on Tuesday accompanied by several photos of the couple in Cleveland, where Clement started his MLB career.

“Surprise!!” Brejcha wrote, alongside a diamond ring emoji. “The best guy, the best friends, and the best family. Feeling all the love this weekend in the most special spot in the world. Now let’s do this thing!!!”

Teammate Myles Straw commented on the post with an emphatic “Let’s go!!!,” while Shane Bieber’s wife Kara Maxine and Louis Varland’s wife Maddie offered up their congratulations.

Clement joined the Jays in 2023 and quickly became a fan favourite. Brejcha has gushed about her love for the ball club, previously calling the wives and girlfriends of her fiancée’s teammates the “best group of humans” she has ever met.

Brejcha took the ring out for a spin on Tuesday night, photographing the stone from inside the Cleveland Guardians’ Progressive Filed with the caption: “Her first baseball game (Yes I’m gonna be annoying about this).”

The mood was less celebratory on the field for the Jays, who dropped game one of their three-game series against the Guardians 6-1. Toronto sits 2.5 games back of a wild card playoff spot and are last place in the American League East.

It’s unclear when Clement and Brejcha will tie the knot.
