Woman struck by SUV on Toronto sidewalk dies in hospital, 18-year-old charged

A 37-year-old woman has died after being struck by an SUV that mounted a curb in midtown Toronto on Friday afternoon.

Toronto police provided the update in a news release on Saturday afternoon.

An 18-year-old man driving a white Nissan Pathfinder northbound on Bathurst Street lost control and mounted the curb near Lonsmount Drive, striking the woman who was walking on the sidewalk, police said.

The woman suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, where, police said, on Saturday she died.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Jacob Sanchez was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death.

It is the city’s 34th fatal collision of the year.
