A teenage boy has died after being shot in broad daylight in North York on Monday afternoon.
It happened at around 3:30 p.m. near the intersection of Jane Street and Finch Avenue West, Toronto police say.
When officers arrived at the scene they located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to a local trauma centre where he was later pronounced dead, according to Insp. Dan Pravica, who spoke to reporters from the scene.
At the scene of the shooting, police markers were seen surrounding a skateboard believed to be where it occurred.
‘Very, very sad day’
At the scene, Supt. Jack Gurr told reporters said it is a “very, very sad day.”
“There is a family in our division who has been traumatized and has a loved one that’s not coming home,” he said.
“For the person who did this, get a lawyer, and turn yourself in.”
Police have yet to release any suspect information.
Several roads in the area remain closed, including eastbound Finch Avenue West at Elana Drive, westbound Finch at Driftwood Avenue, southbound Jane Street at San Romanoway, and northbound Jane at Yewtree Boulevard.
TTC officials said there is currently no Line 6 LRT service between Norfinch Oakdale and Driftwood stations. Shuttle buses are running.
