Police services across Ontario warned of widespread 911 outages overnight but it appears service has been restored throughout the GTA.
Police services in Toronto, Peel, York, Niagara, and Durham all noted outages overnight.
In a post on social media, Ontario Provincial Police confirmed that it too was impacted by the issue.
“OPP has received reports of intermittent 911 outages in parts of the province. The public is urged to call the OPP non-emergency line at 1-888-310-1122, which remains in service, if they are unable to call 911 and require emergency police services,” provincial police said in a post on social media.
By about 6 a.m., most police services confirmed that their lines are back up and running.
At least two other provinces were also dealing with issues on Thursday morning. Outages were reported in both Nova Scotia and Quebec.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Bell, the provider responsible for the service in some jurisdictions, said the issue was first detected shortly before 3:15 a.m.
“Backup systems were brought online to route calls to emergency services while technicians investigated the outage. 911 service is now fully restored and people with an emergency can call 911,” the spokesperson said.
“We are investigating the root cause of the issue and will have further details once available.”
