Eleven people have been taken to hospital following a suspicious fire at a Mississauga apartment building early Monday morning.
The fire broke out in the hallway of a building near Iverhouse Drive and Lakeshore Road West at around 3:30 a.m.
Police said most of the victims suffered smoke inhalation and two people sustained serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
One of the people who was injured was an officer and paramedics say the injury is unrelated to the actual fire.
The flames are now out and some residents have been permitted to return to their units.
Road closures are in place in the area.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released but police say the incident is being treated as suspicious.
“The scene remains secured pending the fire investigators determination,” police wrote in an email to CP24.
“At this time, we do not have confirmed information regarding the number of individuals displaced as a result of the fire.”
