Wednesday marks National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day recognizing the damaging impacts caused by residential schools and honouring survivors across the country.
While Sept. 30 is not a statutory holiday in Ontario, it is one for federal government workers and staff working at federally-regulated businesses.
Here is a broad list of what will be open and closed in Toronto on Wednesday:
Closed
The Government of Canada recognizes Sept. 30 as a federal holiday, so their buildings and offices will be closed. This includes passport offices, Canada Post, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and Service Canada.
Though it is not a stat holiday in the province, some Service Ontario locations will be closed (so be sure to check online before going).
Banks and financial institutions will be closed.
All branches for the Toronto Public Library will be closed. The library says there will also be system maintenance from 11 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday, which means the TPL app and some online services will be unavailable during this time.
Open
TTC, Go Transit, and most regional transit will run regularly.
All schools across the province will be open.
Most grocery stores and malls will run on regular hours.
LCBOs will open at noon. The Beer Store and Wine Rack will also be open.
Attractions like the Art Gallery of Ontario, Aga Khan Museum, Casa Loma, Royal Ontario Museum, and Canada’s Wonderland will be open. The main observation level at the CN Tower will be open later, opening at 4 p.m.
