Police have released video which appears to show a dog being abandoned in Georgina, Ont. on Sunday morning in what they’re describing as an act of “animal cruelty.”

Police said they were called to a dog park near Lake Drive South and Robert Street just after 8 a.m. where they found what appeared to be a Cane Corso, tied to a pole.

A video from the area released by police shows the suspect walking the dog to the pole where it was found tied.

The suspect is then seen leaving in a truck, travelling south on Lake Drive South.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black pick-up truck with a quad cab, black roof rack that extends to the rear of the truck and dark rims.

“The truck is very distinct, as you can see in the video,” York Regional Police Constable Kevin Nebrija told CTV News Toronto. “So, we know someone in that area will recognize the truck.”

“And to the owner, just do the right thing and contact investigators, talk to legal counsel and notify us so we can put a happy ending to the story.”

The dog, who has since been renamed Winter by the Georgina Animal Shelter and Adoption Centre (GASAC) where it was taken, did not appear to be in distress or have any injuries.

“It’s very stressful and it’s very heartbreaking to see,” said Jennifer Yapa of GASAC.

Police are looking for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact York Regional Police #3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7341, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
