Security footage released by police shows two suspects setting fire to a building in Vaughan overnight on Tuesday.
The incident happened at around 1:30 a.m., in the area of Centre and Dufferin streets. York Regional Police confirm to CTV News Toronto it happened at a business in a commercial plaza in the area.
In the video, one suspect can be seen running up to the building before whacking the glass door with what appears to be an axe. Soon after, another suspect approaches, bringing what appears to be a jerrycan.
The video briefly cuts to the moment when one of the suspects lights a fire, the footage flashing white, before refocusing on the growing blaze.
York Regional Police say fire services extinguished the flames. They have since determined an accelerant was used to start the fire “intentionally,” police say.
The building was unoccupied at the time, police say, and there were no reported injuries.
Police did not provide suspect information and are appealing to the public for help with the investigation.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
