Homicide detectives investigating after man dies in ‘unprovoked’ attack in Richmond Hill

A suspect has been arrested in what police are calling an unprovoked attack that left one man dead in Richmond Hill Wednesday.

York Regional Police are investigating a homicide after an assault in Richmond Hill this evening.

Police say officers responded reports of an assault in the area of Lorraine Street and Bernard Avenue just before 5 p.m.

Once on scene, they located a 51-year-old man with serious injuries as the result of an “unprovoked attack.” He was taken to the hospital in life-threatening condition, police say, but he was later pronounced dead.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and police say there is no risk to the public.

A large police presence will be in the area as detectives investigate.
