A pedestrian is dead and two others are in hospital following a serious collision in Richmond Hill late Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened at the intersection of Major Mackenzie Drive and Leslie Street.
York Regional Police said they were for called to that area at about 4:10 p.m.
Police said officers learned following an initial collision between two vehicles that three pedestrians were also hit.
York Regional Paramedics Services told CTV News Toronto that they treated four patients at the scene, one of whom was without vital signs absent. They said they took one patient to a trauma centre and two others to a local hospital.

Speaking with the media near the scene of the collision on Thursday night, Stf. Sgt. Stephen McKenzie said the pedestrians, one of whom was pronounced dead at the scene, were standing on the sidewalk when they were struck.
Of the two who survived, one was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the other was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
McKenzie noted police will not be providing any information about the victims at this time “out of respect for their families and to complete next of kin notifications.”
Both drivers were not injured and remained on scene, investigators previously said.

Cause of crash still being investigated
He also indicated that police have yet to determine what caused this collision. It is not known if speed was a factor, McKenzie said, adding they don’t believe the drivers were impaired at the time.
“This investigation is ongoing and in its early stages. … Our major collision investigators are still looking into all factors that led to this collision and are looking to speak with any witnesses or anyone with dashcam that was in the area around the time of the incident,” he said, adding roadways in the vicinity of the crash will “need to be closed for an extended period of time to allow investigators to conduct a thorough investigation.”
“We want to thank the public for their cooperation in finding alternate routes and for avoiding the area,” he said, urging anyone with information to contact York Regional Police’s Major Collision Investigation Unit at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7704, or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
