Suspect identified in ‘unprovoked’ assault in Vaughan that left 1 injured

York Regional Police have released an image of a man who is accused of an unprovoked assault in Vaughan.

Police are looking to identify a male suspect following an “unprovoked” assault in Vaughan last week.

York police said the incident happened just after 6 p.m. in the parking lot of a plaza near Mable Smith and Interchange ways on Dec. 23.

Investigators said two people were walking when an unknown male approached them from behind, grabbed one of them, and assaulted them with a sharp object before fleeing.

The victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police have now released a photo of both the alleged suspect and a suspect vehicle.

The man is described as having a light complexion. He is believed to be in his late 30s to early 40s, approximately five-foot-10 to six-feet tall with a medium to heavy build, dark facial hair, and dark-coloured hair. He was last seen wearing a blue and green plaid jacket, and dark pants.

The vehicle he was believed to be driving is described as a white, four-door sedan.

Investigators are asking any witnesses, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area around the time of the incident, to contact them.
