A 46-year-old man has been charged in connection with a robbery in Markham earlier this week that left one person seriously injured.

York Regional Police said the robbery happened near 14th Avenue and Birchmount Road on Wednesday night.

A man was walking to his vehicle when two unknown people approached him and demanded his satchel, police said.

A struggle shortly ensued, resulting in the man getting assaulted and his satchel being stolen.

The suspects fled in a silver SUV that was being driven by a third suspect, police said.

The victim was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said they executed a search warrant at a home in Whitby and arrested one suspect. They also recovered a quantity of currency.

The suspect, Alden Nunes, has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

Police are still looking for two remaining suspects. One of them is described as a Black male, five-foot-10 with a medium build and was last seen wearing a black hoodie, black Air Force 1 shoes and a mask.

They do not have a description for the other suspect, who was the driver of the SUV.
