York Regional Police have now identified two men who were shot and killed outside a home in Vaughan on Wednesday night.
Police say 49-year-old Pasquale Casciato and 34-year-old Christian Belsito were fatally shot while standing outside a home near Kaiser and Forest drives at around 5:30 p.m.
In a news release, police said they believe the shooting was a targeted incident.
On Wednesday night, a constable who spoke to reporters at the scene confirmed one of the men killed in the shooting resided at the home where the gunshots rang out. The other man, they said, also lived in the neighbourhood.
The officer noted that police are trying to determine if there is a connection between the shooting and a vehicle fire that occurred about 12 kilometres away from the scene.
The SUV was found engulfed in flames in the area of Huntington and Kirby roads.
Investigators are currently appealing for witnesses to come forward.
Police have not released suspect descriptions but say the investigation is ongoing.
