Man arrested after woman was sprayed with aerosol irritant at Vaughan community event

Scott Kynnersley was arrested and charged by York Regional Police with multiple counts including assault with a weapon and fail to comply with probation.

A man has been arrested and charged after a woman was sprayed with an aerosol irritant during a community event in Vaughan.

It happened on May 28 after York Regional Police officers were called to the area of Steeles Avenue West and New Westminster Drive.

Investigators say a woman attending a community event was approached by an unknown man. The pair had a brief interaction before the man allegedly sprayed her with an aerosol irritant.

The woman was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say the suspect then fled on foot.

On June 11, police charged 41-year-old Scott Kynnersley of Mississauga.

He faces several charges, including assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon, unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon, breach of a weapons prohibition order and failing to comply with probation.

Police say Kynnersley was on probation and subject to a weapons prohibition order for unrelated offences at the time of the incident.
