A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with multiple offences in connection with a series of alleged break-ins at commercial properties across York Region and the Greater Toronto Area.
Police say the suspect was bound by a release order at the time of his arrest.
In March, members of York Regional Police’s Criminal Investigations Bureau began investigating a series of break-ins in Vaughan, according to a news release.
Investigators allege the suspect acted alone, forcing his way into businesses during the evening targeting safes and cash.
On June 11, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Mississauga and arrested the teen. Police say also seized a replica firearm allegedly used during the break-ins, as well as a stolen vehicle during the search.
The 16-year-old from Mississauga, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with 17 offences, including four counts of break and enter, four counts of mischief under $5,000, two counts of disguise with intent, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime and three counts of failing to comply with a release order.
Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
