A man from Brampton has been arrested and charged with numerous offences in connection with a human trafficking investigation involving a youth in the City of Vaughan.

In July, York Regional Police said officers were conducting a proactive human trafficking investigation at a hotel near Applewood Crescent and Portage Parkway when they identified a victim under the age of 18 who was in need of protection.

Police then learned the victim was being trafficked for sexual services, police said in a news release.

Police allege the suspect took photos of the victim and used them in online advertisements promoting sexual services. Police say the suspect then used the advertisements to arrange appointments with clients and collect payment.

The suspect also allegedly transported the victim to multiple locations across multiple jurisdictions.

Last Wednesday, police arrested Mark Brown, 31, and charged him with numerous offences, including trafficking in persons under 18, material benefit under 18, material benefit from sexual services provided by a person under 18, obtaining sexual services for consideration from a person under 18, two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, advertising another person’s sexual services, and householder permitting prohibited sexual activity.

The charges have not been tested in court.

Police believe there may be additional victims, and anyone with information is encouraged to come forward.
