For one York Region family, a Sunday afternoon trip turned into a roadside emergency along Highway 400.
Amanda Cinerari tells CTV News she was with her partner and her son when her partner, who was driving, noticed smoke coming out from the back of their truck while heading northbound.
“The truck gave no indication that anything was wrong, so we kept driving,” Cinerari says.
She says moments later, when the truck’s electricals began to malfunction, she knew something had gone wrong.
“Someone beside (us) said the truck was on fire,” Cinerari says, instantly prompting her partner to pull over.
Cinerari and her family got out as the truck began to burn.
She says while they waited for emergency crews, an anonymous man showed up with a fire extinguisher and began blasting the flame.
Thanks to help from the stranger, Cinerari says her partner was able to get her family’s belongings out of the truck before the fire got worse.
King Fire and Emergency Services responded to the vehicle fire on Hwy. 400 N between King Road and Aurora Road. arriving on the scene around 4:40 p.m., according to city staff.
“Upon arrival, firefighters found a pickup truck with a fully involved engine compartment fire that had extended into the cab,” King City staff says.
The fire was reportedly “under control” within minutes, but crews waited until 5:11 p.m. to clear the incident.
There were no reported injuries.
To the man with the fire extinguisher, Cinerari says “a huge thank you.”
