York Regional Police are searching for a second suspect wanted in connection with an alleged kidnapping in Richmond Hill earlier this month.
On July 7, the victim was reported missing from his business in the area of Denison Street and Woodbine Avenue in Markham.
Based on evidence gathered at the scene of the disappearance, police deemed the incident a kidnapping, and York Regional Police’s homicide unit joined the investigation.
Then, on July 9, police say they located the man safely. Police did not however specify whether he had any injuries.
That same day, police arrested 39-year-old Haidong Zhou of Toronto. He was charged with kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement.
On July 16, police said they were looking for an additional suspect, who was identified as 44-year-old Jianwei “John” Fan of Toronto. Fan is wanted on a warrant for conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Now, police say they are searching for one woman in connection to the incident.
Ying “Amy” Tang, 53, of Markham, is wanted for kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement. Police have a warrant for her arrest.
“Both Fan and Tang are encouraged to seek legal advice and turn themselves in, police said in a news release.”
“Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to either suspect may be subject to criminal charges.”
The charges have not been tested in court.
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the homicide unit or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
