Police have arrested one man and seized more than $300,000 worth of controlled substances after a months-long trafficking investigation in York Region.
In February, police launched an investigation after officers became aware of an individual believed to be trafficking controlled substances in Vaughan, Ont. and surrounding regions, York Regional Police (YRP) said in a news release.
Following an investigation officers say they identified a suspect and began to gather evidence.
On August 6, police executed search warrants at a residence and storage locker in Vaughan. As a result, the controlled substances as well as an unspecified quantity of Canadian currency were allegedly seized.
Wesam Moshi, 37, of Vaughan, was charged with numerous offences, including one count each of trafficking a Schedule I substance, failing to comply with a release order, and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000 as well as two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking. The charges have not been tested in court.
Police say that at the time of the alleged offences, the accused was on a release order for a separate incident.
