A command post has been set up for a missing 28-year-old woman who was last seen in Markham in the early morning hours on Friday.
York Regional Police say she left her home sometime between 2 and 4 a.m., and was last seen in the area of Highway 7 East and Birchmount Avenue.
A command post has been set up in the same area, and while officials say to expect significant police presence, they add that there shouldn’t be any disruptions to traffic.
“Right now, there are serious concerns for her well-being. Her family says this is very much out of character,” Const. James Dixon told reporters on Friday morning.
The woman, identified by police as a vulnerable person named Andrella, is East Asian, five-foot-eight with shoulder length black hair and a reddish complexion. They add that she might have been wearing a hijab and black glasses, and may have been carrying a black bag.
Const. Dixon said this particular area is “difficult” for officers to searching, pointing to the number of multi-storey buildings, green spaces and shopping centres in the neighbourhood.
“That means there’s a lot of ground for our officers to have to try and cover,” Dixon said. “That’s why we’re really reaching out to any business owners, any members of the public information, anything that’s happened between 4 a.m. and even a 7 a.m. window.”
Police are asking anyone who may have information on Andrella’s whereabouts to contact them or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
