A Burlington school will be closed for the day after a man stormed the hallways with a loaded shotgun overnight.

Burlington police were called to Brant Hills School near Dundas and Brant Streets at about 2 a.m., responding to an alarm when they found a man running through the halls of the elementary school with a weapon.

Police say they confronted a man outside the school and arrested him after a short foot chase.

Halton Regional Police tactical and K9 units are currently checking the school for any additional suspects, but it's believed there are none.

The suspect was allegedly in possession of a loaded shotgun.

A 21-year-old Waterdown man is in police custody and is facing several charges.
