A paraplegic is facing 11 drug and firearm-related charges for allegedly dealing drugs from his hospital following a police investigation.

The Globe and Mail, however, is also reporting that the accused was the focus of a Toronto Star story that highlighted the difficulties a man was facing while imprisoned at the Don Jail. Toronto Police have not released the arrested man's name due to privacy and safety concerns.

Police say the patient allegedly sold drugs to an undercover officer in a coffee shop inside a downtown hospital.

The man also allegedly possessed a loaded handgun, bullet-proof vest and illegal drugs in his hospital room, police say.

The patient was arrested Wednesday on several drug and firearm offences.

The Globe and Mail has identified the accused as Venkat Milligan. The 22-year-old was featured in the Toronto Star for launching a $17-million lawsuit against the Don Jail for difficulties he experienced there.
