A man in his late 20s is dead following a shooting in the city's west end.

It happened outside a building near Dundas Street and Scarlett Road at around 3 p.m.

The man suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital, but succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

According to Const. Wendy Drummond, two suspects were seen fleeing the scene.

"There are a number of people that called in to report this and we will be speaking to them to ascertain exactly what happened," Drummond told CP24.

One man, who spoke to CP24, said he heard a series of gunshots and then saw two young men running from the scene.

He said he then went to investigate, where he found the victim without vital signs.

"I saw the blood coming from his mouth and I checked the pulse on his wrist and there was nothing and then I checked the pulse on both sides of his neck and didn't feel anything either," Bill Baxter said. "His eyes were partially open and there was no moving whatsoever."

This is just the latest incident in a string of recent gun violence near Dundas Street West and Scarlett Road. A total of three shooting have taken place in the surrounding area over the last month, including the April 12 murder of Jaivoan Cromwell on Woolner Avenue.

Drummond said police do not have any information suggesting the shootings may be related.
