A man believed to be in his 50s has been rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle Tuesday night.

Toronto police Const. Clint Stibbe says the man was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Shorncliffe Road, near Dundas Street West, while crossing from the east to the west side of the street.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene, Stibbe says.

The area was closed for about an hour and a half as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It was reopened shortly after 10 p.m.
