TORONTO - Premier Dalton McGuinty says he's thrilled that the Olympic torch has landed in Ontario.

McGuinty says the torch symbolizes the same sporting spirit that embodied Ontario's winning bid for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

He hopes that it too will inspire more families and young people to get active and stay healthy.

The Ontario portion of the relay started in Peterborough Wednesday morning before heading to Lakefield, Omemee and Lindsay for a celebration around noon.

It will then be carries through Orono, Newcastle and Bowmanville before ending the day in Oshawa at the G.M. Centre parking lot.

Toronto won its bid to host the Pan Am Games in 2015 last month -- a welcome victory after losing two Olympic bids and failing to secure two Commonwealth Games.
