It may not feel like it outside, but Thursday is the first official day of winter.

Toronto is entering the season with more mild weather.

In addition to a high of 6 C, Environment Canada is forecasting a chance of showers tonight, which may turn into flurries after midnight.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to -5 C.

Normal temperatures for this time of year are highs of -1 C and lows of -7 C.

Thursday is also the winter solstice, the day with the fewest hours of daylight.

Toronto will only see about nine hours of daylight, with a forecasted sunrise of 7:48 a.m. and sunset of 4:44 p.m.

Green Christmas for Toronto

Once again, it appears Toronto is in store for a green Christmas, barring some kind of holiday miracle.

Environment Canada is calling for a high of -2 C on Friday and a high of -1 C on Saturday (Christmas Eve), with no snow in the forecast.

For Christmas Day, people can expect a high of 1 C, a low of -2 C and a chance of flurries, Environment Canada said.
