LONDON - British police arrested three environmental activists who scaled the wall of the Canadian High Commission in London on Tuesday and cut down the Canadian flag.

The men, all in their 20s, initially chained themselves to the balcony but came down peacefully after just over an hour.

The suspects are accused of aggravated trespassing and criminal damage for cutting down the flag. The protesters were part of the Camp for Climate Action which is unhappy with Canada's oilsands development. The group accused Prime Minister Stephen Harper of obstructing progress at the climate summit in Copenhagen, Denmark, in order to protect Canada's oilsands industry. The group said its action was a response that.

"Tarsands are the dirtiest fuel known to man, both in terms of their impact on the climate and the devastation inflicted on the local communities."
