LONDON, England - Defender Ashley Cole has retained his place in the Chelsea team to face Manchester United on Tuesday despite being punished for accidentally shooting an intern with an air gun.

Cole wounded a sports sciences student after playing with a .22 air gun he had brought into the Chelsea training ground and hadn't realized was loaded.

Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti said Monday that "proper action" has been taken against Cole, who is reportedly being fined two weeks' wages.

Ancelotti says the England defender "remains a very good player and ... a very good professional" and "will be focused and play a good game" against Manchester United.

Ancelotti insists his "players aren't out of control."
