Service on GO Transit's Lakeshore West rail line will be reduced Monday following a train derailment that killed three Via Rail employees.

The Via Rail derailment occurred in Burlington, just east of the Aldershot GO Station, on Sunday afternoon.

In an email, GO Transit said train service on the Lakeshore West line will originate and terminate at the Burlington GO Station.

The Aldershot GO station is being bypassed, so shuttle buses will be running to and from the Burlington GO Station.

Passengers can also use the Applyby GO Station as an alternative to the station in Burlington.

Hamilton passengers can catch trains at the Hamilton GO Centre, but the trains won't be stopping at Aldershot GO Station, GO Transit said.

Passengers may experience delays of up to 10 minutes because trains are required to slow down through the Aldershot area.

Hamilton passengers can also catch a regularly-scheduled QEW express bus that operates from the Hamilton GO Station to Union Station in downtown Toronto.

"Where possible, we encourage passengers to consider alternative travel options," GO Transit spokeswoman Vanessa Thomas said.

GO Transit said additional staff will be on hand at the Hamilton, Aldershot, Burlington and Applyby GO stations to assist passengers.
