A Toronto man is facing charges in connection with the city’s first murder of the year.

O’Marie Brooks died in hospital after being stabbed outside Randy’s Sports Bar on Keele Street, north of Steeles Avenue, during a fight with another man just before 5 a.m. on Jan. 1.

His friends quickly rushed him to hospital but he succumbed to his injuries.

Later that day, a 29-year-old man turned himself into police to answer questions related to the investigation.

Suspect Nicholas Silvera has been charged with second-degree murder. He was expected to appear in court Wednesday morning.
