A Brantford man is in hospital with serious injuries following multiple collisions on Highway 403 caused by whiteout conditions Tuesday.
According to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), at least four transport trucks were involved in jack-knife crashes, seven vehicles were involved in a pile-up, and another three vehicles collided in a separate crash.
The latter incident left a 36-year-old man seriously injured, police said.
As a result of the collisions, the eastbound lanes of Highway 403 were closed for several hours between Garden Avenue and Highway 52 for cleanup.
The highway reopened shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Environment Canada placed Brantford under a snow squall warning earlier Tuesday afternoon.
Between 10 and 20 cm of snow was forecast for the southwestern Ontario city on Tuesday, with the agency warning of poor visibility due to "intense snowfall rates" and winds of up to 60 km per hour.
