A spokesperson for the TTC says CEO Andy Byford will be seeking “clarity” after paying customers were reportedly taken off two city buses so the vehicles could be used to transport players on Mayor Rob Ford’s high school football team.

In an email to CP24 Sunday morning, Brad Ross confirmed that Byford has sent an email to transit commissioners about the incident and will be following up on the issue.

The content of the email is not known.

“All I can say is that Mr. Byford has some questions,” Ross told CP24.

Last Thursday, a high school football playoff game between Ford’s Don Bosco Eagles and the Henry Carr Crusaders ended about an hour early after the Crusaders coach became agitated with the referee, a spokesperson with the Toronto Catholic District School Board previously told CP24.

According to the spokesperson, the school bus that was scheduled to transport the Don Bosco players back to their school was not available at the time and due to weather conditions a decision was made to dispatch a TTC bus to the scene.

The Toronto Star has reported that passengers were then pulled off the Finch West 36 and Grove 46 buses to allow for the last-minute pick up.

The Star also said that Ford called Byford on his cell phone to check on the status of the buses.

Ford left council meeting for game

The game, which Ford’s team won 35-0, took place during a city council meeting and drew the mayor away from debate on several items, including a master plan for four new light rail transit lines.

Upon returning to city hall Ford brushed aside criticism that he shouldn’t have left the meeting for a football field.

“If I wasn’t there, things would have gotten out of hand,” he told reporters.
