Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after a car crashed into a pole in Scarborough late Friday night.

The crash occurred on Markham Road, just south of McNicoll Avenue, at about 10 p.m.

One person was reportedly thrown from the car, which was destroyed in the crash.

Toronto police closed Markham Road between Finch Avenue and Nashdene Road.

Members of the traffic services division are investigating the cause of the collision.

Two injured in Richmond Hill crash

Meanwhile, two people were injured in a serious crash that occurred in Richmond Hill about half an hour earlier.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at Highway 7 and Hunters Point Drive, between Bathurst and Yonge streets, at about 9:30 p.m. The nature of the victims’ injuries wasn’t clear, but police described it as a serious crash.

Police are investigating.
