LONDON, Ont. -- An 18-year-old man is dead after swerving the car he was driving off a road southwest of London, Ont., to avoid hitting a dog.

Police say the driver's move to dodge the animal sent his Plymouth Neon into a ditch on Ballpark Road near the edge of the Oneida First Nation early this morning.

He was flung from the car and killed in the rollover crash. Police say he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

A 17-year-old girl and 13-year-old boy were passengers in the car and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No names have been released.

Provincial police say drivers should only brake quickly to avoid hitting animals on the road, even if it results in a collision.
