LEEDS, Ont. -- A 42-year-old woman is facing numerous charges after allegedly defrauding a senior citizen in her care of more than $100,000.

Provincial police say they began investigating the woman last May.

They allege she was caring for the 95-year-old woman for an unspecified amount of time prior to the investigation.

Police say the senior citizen lost nearly $150,000 worth of jewelry, which they describe as a substantial amount of her life savings.

Martina Havel of Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township is facing six charges, including one count each of fraud over $5,000, theft over $5,000 and breach of trust.

Police say anyone with information on this or similar cases is urged to contact them.
