Police have identified a suspect in the murder of a 47-year-old man at a home near the city’s Stockyards District on Thursday.

Officers were sent to the address near Davenport Road and Old Weston roads at around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday to check on the welfare of the victim after receiving a call suggesting he may require assistance.

Once on scene, police say they found the victim deceased inside the home.

A subsequent post-mortem examination then determined that the victim had died from blunt force trauma.

According to Det. Robert North, the home belonged to the suspect, who he described as an acquaintance of the victim.

It is not immediately clear what the victim was doing at the home.

The identity of the victim is also being withheld as police have not yet been able to notify his next-of-kin.

Anthony Brake, 46, is being sought for second-degree murder in the case.

North says that Brake is known to hang around the Kensington Market area with a group of friends.

At this point, North said police do not believe that Brake poses a threat to the public.

“He does not pose a threat to public but we want to alert the public and those communities and let them know that Mr. Brake might be out there and we are asking them not to approach him if they see him,” he said.

Brake, who is known to police, is described as five-foot-nine, about 300 lbs. with salt-and-pepper-hair and a goatee.
