Police say a 58-year-old Toronto man has been charged with murder after his 24-year-old son was stabbed to death at a home in Scarborough's Birch Cliffe neighbourhood.

Investigators previously said the incident occurred inside a residence on Harding Boulevard, in the area of Kingston Road and Birchmount Road, at around 6:30 a.m. on April 23.

The victim, who has now been identified as Edward Bernard Junior Dwyer, suffered stab wounds and was rushed to hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later. The victim's father was taken into custody at the scene.

Police say Edward Dwyer, 58, has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the case.

He is scheduled to appear in court at 1911 Eglinton Avenue East on May 1.
