A number of Loblaws grocery stores throughout Toronto were shut down briefly Thursday morning after the company appeared to suffer a computer glitch affecting cash registers.

There were also complaints on Twitter from PEI and other parts of Canada.

A store manager at the Queen’s Quay Loblaws store who identified himself as Steve said the outage was caused by a company-wide network issue impacting cash registers.

He said once it appeared they could not ring through any customers, the store was shut down. All but the self-checkout scanners at the store was open and running again by 10 a.m.

The Loblaws store at Maple Leaf Gardens was also shut down for a period of time due to the same issue.

The company answered customers on Twitter saying it was experiencing technical difficulties and was working to correct the outage as soon as possible.

The company said at 10:30 a.m. that issue had been fixed but checkout times "may be slower than normal" at some outlets.
