The province’s police watchdog is investigating after a man allegedly crashed a stolen cab and barricaded himself inside a home in East York overnight.

According to police, a man stole a taxi in the Roblin Avenue and Plains Road area at around 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.

While driving, police say the man crashed the car into another vehicle in the area Pape Avenue and O’Connor Drive and continued driving.

Police allege that the suspect then walked into a home and threatening the occupant, who fled the property and was not injured.

The suspect, police say, barricaded himself inside the house and the police service’s emergency task force (ETF) was called in to get the man out.

He was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.

It is unclear if the man was injured in the collision or during an interaction with members of the ETF.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been called in to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency called in to investigate any interaction between a police officer and a member of the public that results in death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault.
