LINDSAY, Ont. - The province's police watchdog agency is investigating the death of a man who allegedly fled from officers in Lindsay, Ont.

The Special Investigations Unit says Kawartha Lakes police responding to a 911 call on Sunday evening encountered a 34-year-old man.

The SIU says the man fled from the officers and went into the Scugog River and he was not located, despite the efforts of the officers and the Kawartha Lakes Fire Rescue Service.

The SIU says a provincial police underwater search and recovery unit pulled the man's body from the water on Monday afternoon.

The SIU is an arm's-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
