Two elderly residents were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries after a fire completely engulfed a home in Brampton early Wednesday morning.
The blaze broke out on the main level of a residence on Horne Drive near Kennedy Road and Williams Parkway shortly after midnight and quickly spread throughout the building.
Several nearby homes were then evacuated as a precaution; however crews were able to knock the fire down a short time later.
According to Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick, a 75-year-old male and 72-year-old female were transported to a local hospital, however the male victim was subsequently transferred to a burn unit after it was discovered that he had suffered burns to his head, neck, hands and lungs.
The damage from the fire is estimated at $350,000 and the cause remains unknown.
