Durham Regional Police are investigating after a 57-year-old Beaverton woman was seriously hurt in a crash in a rural portion of the region Wednesday night.

Sometime before 10:13 p.m. Wednesday, police said a Dodge Journey travelling northbound on York/Durham Line, left the road, entered the ditch and continued onto a CN Railway track.

The incident occurred about four kilometres west of Zephyr, Ont. and four kilometres south of Brown Hill, Ont., near the intersection of Zephyr Road and York/Durham Line.

Train movements along the track were cancelled as first responders worked to remove the injured women from the vehicle.

She was taken to South Lake Hospital in Newmarket with serious injuries and was later taken to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto for further treatment.
